Speaker's Bio

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Canada, and Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Andrii Plakhotniuk is a seasoned diplomat with a long history of service in Ukraine’s foreign affairs. He previously served as Ukraine’s Ambassador to Sweden from 2020 until his recent appointment.

Born in Kharkiv in 1975, Ambassador Plakhotniuk began his career at Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997. He has held a number of key roles, including leading the Ministry’s Directorate for Countering Russian Threats and representing Ukraine in diplomatic capacities in China.

Through his diplomacy, Plakhotniuk has focused on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting democracy and human rights, and advocating for Ukraine’s security, Euro-Atlantic integration, and international cooperation. His leadership comes at a critical time for Ukraine and its global partners.
