Speaker's Bio

Maaz Yasin leads BlackBerry’s global business with governments, overseeing secure communications solutions that protect national leadership, defence, and critical-infrastructure networks across more than 50 countries. Based in Ottawa, he works closely with Canadian embassies and allied governments to advance Canada’s leadership in trusted, sovereign technology.

Previously, Maaz served as a senior advisor to the Hon. Chrystia Freeland during her tenure as Trade Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister. Since the start of Russia’s most recent illegal invasion of Ukraine, Maaz led the government’s efforts in working closely with Canada’s Ukrainian community on foreign policy and immigration rules. Maaz was one of the Canadian officials sanctioned by the Russian government.

With a background bridging public policy, diplomacy, and cybersecurity, Maaz has helped position BlackBerry as a strategic partner to global governments in areas such as national security, digital sovereignty, and crisis management. He is passionate about fostering deeper Canada–Ukraine partnerships grounded in resilience, security, and innovation.
